5e Jump Calculator

Thanks for visiting 5e Jump Calculator, a straightforward online tool created to fix a common D&D 5e table slowdown: jumping.

If you’ve ever been the player who stopped a session to flip through the Player’s Handbook, argued over how far a character can really leap, or tried to reconstruct from memory exactly how the jumping math works, this site is for you.

So, What Does This Site Do?
5e Jump Calculator is a simple online helper that takes the 5e jump rules and does the math for you.

You plug in your character’s stats—like Strength score, height, and a few relevant conditions—and the calculator spits out your:

Maximum long jump distance High jump height Maximum reach during a jump Key distances based on the 5e rules as written

No guesswork, no mid-session rule dives—just clean numbers you can rely on.

Why This Calculator Exists
This site was inspired by real table frustration.

As a DM who also plays regularly, I kept noticing the same situation:

A player asks, "Can I make that jump?" and we all pause to look up the details.

The 5e rules for jumping aren’t especially complicated, but they are easy to forget. I was tired of re-reading the same paragraph every few sessions, so I did the sensible nerd thing: I wrote a little web app.

5e Jump Calculator was originally just a quick private tool, and then I cleaned it up and put it online in case other tables were just as tired of flipping pages mid-session.

How the Calculator Handles the Rules
This tool follows the official Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition jumping rules found in the Player’s Handbook. In simple terms, it:

Uses your Strength to set how far and how high you can jump Accounts for running vs standing jumps Factors in your height and reach where appropriate Respects the rules as written, without adding homebrew assumptions

You don’t need to know the exact formula. The calculator takes care of it and outputs just what you need for play.

How to Use It at Your Table
5e Jump Calculator is meant to be:

Fast enough to use mid-session Accessible for beginners Reliable for tables that like to follow RAW

You can use it to:

Check whether a character can clear an obstacle before they commit Design encounters with realistic jumps in mind Keep cinematic moments moving without arguing over distances

Open the site, fill in the fields, and you’re done. It’s meant to get out of the way, not steal the spotlight.

Where This Might Go
Right now, 5e Jump Calculator is focused on doing one thing well: it handles jump distances cleanly.

In the future, I plan to:

Add more 5e movement-related tools Cover more special abilities and conditions Polish the interface and add small quality-of-life features

If you notice an issue, or if you want to request a feature, you’re welcome to contact me. This site is for DMs and players like you, and your experience at the table is what most.

Thanks for using 5e Jump Calculator. I hope it saves you a few minutes—and a few arguments—every session.
